Silicon, Scintillators and Snow-capped Summits
From June 23 to 27, 2025, the XXXIII Bonaudi-Chiavassa School brought together young scientists, including two ETP master’s students, and experts in the heart of the Italian Alps for an intensive week of studying particle detector technologies. Hosted in the picturesque village of Cogne and organized by the Italian national institute for nuclear physics, the school offered a rich and diverse program — from fundamental research on semiconductor detectors for future experiments, to applications in medical diagnostics, space experiments and cultural heritage. Additionally, recent developments in particle identification for particle physics experiments, as well as the growing role of machine learning in detector physics were on the scientific menu.
Beyond the lectures, the school offered a unique setting, encouraging informal discussions, idea exchange, and community building leading to both scientific and personal growth. Inspiring discussions during the coffee break, shared delicious lunches, hikes in the beautiful landscape, and the amazing social dinner created the perfect environment to develop new friendships.
