From September 23 to 25, 2026, the German CMS community gathered at KIT for its traditional annual meeting. As the host, the Institute for Experimental Particle Physics (ETP) welcomed approximately 150 researchers, early-career scientists, and students from all German institutes participating in the CMS experiment to the campus.

For three days, the focus was on an intensive scientific exchange regarding the latest physics results from the CMS detector at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In addition to precise measurements of the Higgs boson and searches for new physics, preparations for the upgrade to the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) were a central focus. Numerous presentations and discussion sessions highlighted the current status of detector developments as well as progress in data-intensive analysis methods and machine learning.

The international CMS management team also accepted the invitation to Karlsruhe: The spokesperson for the German CMS institutes, Prof. Alexander Schmidt, and conference chair Prof. Markus Klute (ETP) welcomed CMS Spokesperson Anadi Canepa, Collaboration Board Chair Sridhara Dasu, and Physics Coordinator Steven Lowette as guests of honor.

At the conclusion of a thoroughly successful conference, Markus Klute passed the baton to Alexander Schmidt—representing the III. Institute of Physics A at RWTH Aachen University, which will host the 2027 annual meeting.
