KIT Award for Excellent Teaching in Physics for ETP Prof. Torben Ferber
“Excellence in science is the combination of excellence in research and teaching,” emphasized KIT president Prof. Jan S. Hesthaven. On March 17th 2026, Prof. Torben Ferber has been awarded the KIT Award for Excellent Teaching in Physics. The award is presented once per year and is based on nominations by students and faculty members.
The award recognizes Ferber’s contributions to the mandatory course “Programmieren und Algorithmen”, which is taught to first year BSc physics students and second year students in meteorology and climate physics, and geophysics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
The course is part of ETP’s long-standing and continuously developed contribution to teaching computational, algorithmic, and statistical methods in the physics curriculum. It introduces students at an early stage to programming with Python and NumPy, as well as to structured problem solving and algorithmic thinking.
